The Story So Far
In the port town of Fremantle, on Australia's west coast, a technology company was founded over two decades ago in a small backyard garage. Through hot Australian summers, a young physicist, Jesse Searls gathered a small team of dedicated and experienced professionals to cross new technology frontiers and discover innovative techniques that use electronics and radio frequency. Today that small business has grown into a leading technology company that designs and manufactures ultra low phase noise oscillators for customers around the world.
Since its earliest days, Poseidon Scientific Instruments has sought to harness great Australian scientific innovation and turn it into successful commercial property. Initially, Poseidon undertook a range of activities in the radio and electronics field. The company soon grew into a fast moving and successful enterprise that has found an international market and a diverse customer base.
An honours graduate in physics at the University of Western Australia, Jesse Searls became acquainted with research into sapphire loaded oscillators that was underway at his alma mater. This research has been the basis of a long term license agreement.
The relationship with the University of Western Australia has been an important part of Poseidon Scientific community ever since.
In 2008 Jesse Searls was awarded the CB Sawyer Memorial Award by the IEEE for “development and successful commercialisation of microwave signal sources exhibiting spectral purity that significantly advances the state-of-the-art.”
