Are You Measuring Phase Noise?

Now, for the very first time, there is no reason you shouldn't measure phase noise and every reason to start. The ODIN-320A provides users with automatic and precise measurement of phase noise in oscillators and residual phase noise in components as well as amplitude noise measurement capabilities. The flexibility afforded by a modular plug-in architecture allows for a complete, integrated solution, for a broad range of frequencies and functions.

ODIN-320A

The ODIN-320A features an integral bay for three plug-in modules. This modular architecture is easy to configure, and allows the user to buy only those modules  suited to their specific functional and frequency requirements, or to expand to new features in the future. The ODIN-320A is capable of controlling external devices for added expandability.ODIN-320A Instrument

The ODIN-320A is a 19-inch rack instrument, providing a compact phase noise analysis solution. Internally, the instrument uses a PC architecture for easy storage, manipulation, exchange, networking and printing of data, while retaining the look and feel of a stand-alone instrument. The in-built CD-RW writer provides a modern storage solution for measured data.

The ODIN-320A is provided with a digitally synthesized signal source with DC-10 MHz frequency range, 12 bit amplitude resolution, 48 bit frequency word, and DC offset and range capabilities. Chirp and 10 MHz white noise outputs are also selectable.

An in-built PLL circuit with multiple decades of selectable bandwidth allows easy phase locking of oscillators for phase noise measurements. PLL correction can be turned on or off, allowing users to see the real, measured data or PLL-response corrected data at the press of a button. The PLL circuit features user-programmable DC offset capabilities with a resolution of 4 mV. The PLL circuit can phase lock oscillators with tuning ranges of 1 Hz/V to more than 1 MHz/V.

Currently, the OR-101A, OR-102A  and the OR-105A receivers are available for ODIN, which provide for automated phase noise measurements and amplitude noise measurements at 6 to 12 GHz (OR-101A), 5 MHz to 1 GHz (OR-102A) and 1 to 18 GHz (OR-105A).

The receivers include a base band input, allowing phase noise measurements at frequencies from DC to over 40 GHz with an appropriate external mixer.  Other receivers are being developed for release shortly.  Contact PSI to discuss your measurement requirements.

In addition, the OD-103 delay line is available for ODIN, offering automated residual phase noise measurements from 5 MHz to 6 GHz (OD-103A) or 5 MHz to 18 GHz (OD-103B) when used in conjunction with an OR-101, OR-102 or OR-105 receiver.

Also available for ODIN is the OC-104 calibration module. This module allows in-house calibration saving the time and expense of outside calibration.
